What do Cubics, the number four, and too much knitting have in common?  Well, today, it would be me, revLea, and what I talked about in this week’s podcast of Yarns and Tales.  I introduce mystery part #4, talk about squared knitting needles, and share a bit of humor about excessive knitting (not that I believe that’s possible!)

  1. I’ve started to follow the mystery knit-a-long. Part 1 and 2 are knit. I’m using fingering weight instead so my “thing” will be much smaller – but sockyarn is what my basket with leftovers is full of.
After listening to this episode – a joy to listen to as always – I cast of for part 4. This part is apparently supposed to become a square after 20 rows (knit). Does “square” mean the same as “quadrat”? English isnt’ my first language so sometimes I’m not sure if I understand things correct.
I will need to knit 40 rows (20 garter ridges) to get a square/quadrat (all edges the same length) instead of 20 rows.
I think I’ll knit 20 rows and then wait with the bind off.

    • Howdy! And yes, “quadrat” in this case does mean “square”, to be equal (or close to it) along all sides. I’ll make a note of this for next week’s podcast, in case anyone else is unsure. Thank you! 😎

      And thanks for listening!! 😎

  2. Thank you for your fast reply.
Now I know that it’s a “all edges the same length” square.
Could you please check if it should be 20 rows or 20 garter ridges for this piece and maybe confirm it in next week’s episode? (I guess I’m not the only one having this problem.)

And I think it’s too early to guess what it’s going to be 🙂

    • You make a good point. Sometimes my mouth gets to running and I leave things a bit vague. To keep it square-ish, it would be 40-ish rows (20-ish garter ridges). I’ll definitely clear this up in next week’s show. 😎
