This is the pattern I talked about in episode 11 of my podcast Yarns and Tales.  The pattern is simple and quick.  The most important consideration here is organic/natural fibers.

You’ll need:

  • Yarn (cotton, hemp, bamboo, or a blend of these)
  • Size 4 knitting needles

Cast on 20 stitches, leaving a tail of 8 to 12 inches.  Stockinette 19-20 rows (depending on whether you begin your project with K or P side).  On the knit side, K2tog across all stitches, leaving you with 10 stitches.  Purl across then bind off on the knit side, leaving a tail of 10 to 12 inches.  At the end of each respective tail, tie a simple knot to prevent fraying.

A modified version of this one which gives a pointier bullet-nose is after the K2tog row, P2tog the purl row, giving you 5 stitches.  Bind off the 5 on the knit side, with the tails the same.
